The surface of the earth has an electromagnetic field and so does everything in nature, including us. We are electromagnetic beings. Our cells are electrically charged. Our heart is an electromagnetic organ. Our nervous system runs on electrical currents. This is why we can feel an energetic connection through the heart, tune into a certain electromagnetic frequency, get electrocuted or struck by lightning.

The Earth ๐ŸŒ has always been our home, but there has been disconnection for a long time. Earthing/grounding is now becoming a โ€œthingโ€… The idea is, contact with the Earthโ€™s surface enables our bodies to receive negative ions (electrically charged particles) that are vital for health and healing. For a large part of life as a human species, we would have regularly obtained this through regular contact with the Earth. These negative ions are anti-inflammatory. This is why we feel calm, peaceful and clear.

Connection with the Earth ๐ŸŒ activates the parasympathetic nervous system, decreases cortisol and blood sugar levels, improves mood… and on and on and on. With so many (harmful) positive ions in our world today (from modern technology), we need to reconnect to the Earth now more than ever…. and for many other reasons too.

What disconnects us from the earth??
– Shoes
– Houses and buildings
– Cars
– Modern life habits
– Societal and cultural perceptions
– Spiritual forgetting/separation

How can we reconnect with the earth?
– Get outside as much as possible
– Take your shoes off and get your feet on the earth.
– The most conductive surfaces are water, soil and sand. Swim in or walk in the ocean, walk on, sit on, roll around in the dirt and/or sand. Get dirty!
– Forest bathing (Shinrin Yoku)
– Spiritual growth. Plant medicine. This facilitates a higher remembering. Remembering who we are as beings of this Earth. Remembering that we are nature and the Earth is our true home and provider of life.

Itโ€™s great that we can “ground” and use these means to reconnect with the Earth. However I feel there is a deeper disconnection going on. In general in our culture, many of us donโ€™t grow up with a deep spiritual connection and respect for Mother Earth (I know I didn’t). Nature is seen as โ€œeverything out thereโ€, which seems to perpetuate a conceptual separation.

Many other cultures see, feel and know the Earth as their Mother. Some call her ๐ŸŒ€ Pachamama ๐ŸŒ€or Aipomama. There is a divine spiritual relationship with her and with that which is greater than ourselves. I canโ€™t even begin to understand a relationship like this when it is only one that has consciously been part of my life for a short while in the big picture of things.

Thankfully ๐Ÿ™ the more I walk this path, the more I remember and the deeper I reconnect with myself, others and the Earth (one and the same). All is not lost.

What is your relationship to the Earth? ๐ŸŒ ๐ŸŒณ Do you feel her deeply? Love her, respect her and look after her within your means? Do you take time to acknowledge and give thanks? ๐Ÿ™ Is it just about trees ๐ŸŒฒ birds ๐Ÿฆ bees ๐Ÿ bush and beaches, or is it more than that??
